Glossary

Bladder

An organ located in the lower body and supported by the pelvic floor muscles. The bladder expands to store urine and contracts to release urine.

Bladder Support (Pessary)

A device that is placed in the vagina to support prolapsing (sagging) organs (bladder, uterus) and / or stop bladder leakage.

Contraindications

Situations or conditions when the product should not be used.

Cystocele

Descent of the bladder into the vagina.

Enterocele

Descent of the small bowel into the vagina.

Kegel Exercises

Exercises that strengthen the pelvic support muscles and the muscles that squeeze the urethra closed to hold urine in the bladder.

Labia

The inner and outer "lips" of the vagina.

Lubricant

A substance like a gel used to reduce friction between two parts.

Medical-Grade Non-Latex Rubber

A rubber designed for use in medical products. It is used as a substitute for latex. Latex rubber may produce allergic reactions with continued use.

Pelvic Muscles

Muscles which form a bowl shape in the bottom of the pelvis. They support the bladder and other pelvic organs (uterus).

Prolapse

Pelvic prolapse is the descent of pelvic organs into the vagina.

Rectocele

Descent of the rectum into the vagina.

Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI)

An unwanted loss of small amounts of urine with physical activity.

Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS)

A bacterial infection caused by leaving a tampon in the vagina too long. There is no association between use of the uresta™ bladder support and TSS.

Urethra

The narrow tube that carries urine from the bladder out of the body.

Urinate

To release or void urine; to pee; to “pass your water”.

Uterine Prolapse

Descent of the uterus into the vagina.

Uterus

The major female reproductive organ. It is also known as the womb. It is located at the top of the vagina.

Vagina

A passageway from the uterus (womb) to the outside of the body. It is also known as the birth canal.
