EastMed Inc., a medical manufacturing company that caters specifically to women's health and wellness, has received a Canadian Medical Device Licence from Health Canada for its very first product set to hit the Atlantic Canadian marketplace this fall.

The company’s flagship product, the uresta® Continence Care Kit, empowers women to self-manage their stress urinary incontinence (SUI) with a breakthrough alternative to traditional products.

“We are delighted to get the official word from Health Canada,” said Dr. Scott Farrell, EastMed President and head of the urogynaecology division at the IWK Health Centre. “Our team has been working hard for the past few years to develop, refine and prepare this product for market. We’re all very excited about it.”

EastMed Inc. secured $1.5 million in initial financing from InNOVAcorp and BDC Venture Capital’s Technology Seed Investments fund.

“Having access to InNOVAcorp’s incubation infrastructure, mentoring and investment programs has enabled us to overcome some of the early, traditional hurdles to entrepreneurial growth,” said Dr. Farrell.

This fall, EastMed will share with Atlantic Canadian women the company’s first product designed especially with them in mind.  EastMed’s uresta® Continence Care Kit will be officially launched in October in Halifax, Nova Scotia with plans to launch nationally in the spring of 2008.

EastMed Inc. is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia and is dedicated to inventing and bringing to market medical innovations for women's health and wellness.  EastMed has also received ISO world class quality certification, standards of quality recognized and respected throughout the world.
